Job Title: Chemical Control Room Operator 

Division: Ultimate Linings

Reports To (Title): Production Supervisor 

 

Job Summary 

The Chemical Control Room Operator performs all essential duties with particular emphasis on safety, quality, and productivity. They are responsible for the overall operation of the daily chemical production and the documentation of raw material usage and finished goods packaging.

  • Safety, Environmental, & Health – Understands and abides by all safety rules. Understands and uses the handling and safety procedures (SDS’s) for all raw materials and finished goods and uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). 
  • Maintain safety awareness related to the position including any safety precautions necessary when involved in activities in manufacturing areas. Adhere to all required safety programs and procedures including applicable Standard Operating Procedures and Company policies. 
  • Attend all required OSHA safety training courses. 
  • Maintain HazCom certification as lead to manage spill containment in the event of an incident.

  • Works with other Control Room operators and/or supervisor to coordinate production related operations during shift, quality lab. 
  • Follow detailed procedures and written work instructions to safely manufacture quality products. 
  • Understand the function of all chemical manufacturing equipment such as weigh tanks, reactors, pumps and other specialized equipment. 
  • Be able to understand and describe all process flow scenarios for products produced.

  • Operate automated control room computers to manage the operation of reactors, blenders, material transfers, and associated auxiliary equipment in the chemical production area.  
  • Interprets various screens to understand the status of equipment and determine if the process is running under control. 
  • Troubleshoots processing problems or alarm conditions and takes corrective action when possible. Seeks assistance when necessary. 
  • Ability to fill out batch sheets completely and accurately and proper use of material movement/location change forms.  
  • Ensure that all waste generated is placed in appropriate containers and properly labeled.

  • Capable of pulling sample materials for QC/QA testing and directing Unloaders on proper bulk truck unloading procedures 
  • Understand functions of all other chemical departmental positions with ability to fill in when necessary. 

 

Qualifications 

Education  Minimum Required:  
  • High School diploma or equivalent with 3-5 years of relevant experience. 
Preferred: 
  • 2-yr applied technology degree in STEM field. 
Experience  Minimum Required: 
  • Compounding, blending, and/or mixing experience. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing experience  
  • Ability to read and perform manufacturing work instructions. 
  • Legally authorized to work in the USA without the need for sponsorship for employment visa status. 
Preferred: 
  • 2-4 years in a chemical manufacturing environment.  
Job Specific Skills   Minimum Required: 
  • Strong ability to work in a fast-paced environment and change direction quickly dependent on tasks 
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision. 
  • Fluent in English 
  • Ability to perform basic computer functions in systems such as MS Office, and PLC based process control systems, etc. 
  • Ability to learn other computer based programs as needed. 
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills. 
  • Must be able to multi-task skills and prioritize tasks at hand to maximize output. 
Preferred:  
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and some chemistry knowledge/aptitude to understand not only how to run a process, but how equipment and chemicals work together. 
  • Have a high understanding and ability to troubleshoot equipment, operations, and processes. 
  • Experience in ERP/MRP system, Oracle NetSuite a strong plus. 
  • Ability to train others using demonstration and verbal discussion. 
  • Familiar with 49CFC, IATA, & IMDG regulations.

  • Bulk load truck drivers 

Working Conditions 

The following working conditions are present or expected daily: 

  • Comfortable working inside/outside in varying temperatures and weather conditions. 
  • Manual dexterity is required to use computer and PLC driven workstations. 
  • Ability to periodically work overtime as necessary to complete production quotas. 
  • Must wear required PPE, including but not limited to a hard hat, gloves, splash shield, and chemical rated respirator for required tasks. 
  • Clean process equipment & work area as per standardized procedures. 
  • Able to lift 50-lb on a non-routine basis without accommodation.
