The Senior Product Development Chemist is responsible for establishing chemical testing protocols required to ensure the current product portfolio meets our customers’ performance expectations and complies with internal and external regulatory requirements.

This role will include training and mentoring of other Chemists involved in R&D efforts related to the development of new products and will include formulation guidance to optimize and validate their assignments.

Job Duties:

  • Operates with expertise and hands-on technical skills to solve technical problems, and mentors’ colleagues using constructive formulating principles to provide solutions which exceed customer expectations at a competitive cost in an acceptable timeframe.
  • Manages scheduling assignments and daily departmental workflows and reviews the experimental work performed by team members. Uses or creates work orders as needed to complete documentation of projects and requested assessments.
  • Validates the scale-up of new formulations from laboratory to production with defined process parameters and specifies test methods to analyze process data to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Ensures that all new product information is provided to Operations, QC, Tech Service, Sales, and Scheduling.
  • Follows all environmental health and safety standards including the proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals. Maintains knowledge and compliance of federal, state, local, regulations and organizational best practices.
  • Lead the delivery of new products by utilizing robust experimental plans and Design-of-Experiment principles to guide the use of innovative techniques for optimizing the selection of raw material preferences to support new formulations via quantitative and qualitative data analytics.
  • Researches and recommends the acquisition of essential laboratory equipment to support new opportunities and develops procedures and methods for the solution of technical problems.
  • Maintains documentation for each project assignment, analyzes data, and creates reports based on compliance with ISO17025 standards.

Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor of Science degree
    • 5+ years in an industrial chemical setting.
    • 1-2 years in polyurethanes /polyurea elastomers.
    • Experience in sample testing and quality control using ASTM standards.
    • Experience with polyurethane raw materials.
